October 2013 – There’s a leek in the boat!

Captain Phillips PosterFinally able to attend press screenings after only my third application for accreditation, I’ve been unusually up-to-date with October’s theatrical releases.

This month I saw Le Week-End, Turbo, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs: Revenge Of The Leftovers, Captain Phillips and Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa before they reached cinemas, in addition to a number of November releases.

I also caught up with Filth, The Call, How I Live Now, R.I.P.D., Prisoners, Adore, The Kings Of Summer and Thor: The Dark World. It was a strong month, and Thor 2 — in addition to Cloudy 2 and Captain Phillips — could well find their way into my Top Ten come the end of the year.

This month I was also privileged enough to watch as-yet unreleased movie The Better Man. The film, which cost £3,000 and stars Best For Film alumni Duncan Vicat-Brown and Caroline O’Donoghue, among others, is an absolute delight, and one which deserves to one day find distribution.

Otherwise it’s been a pretty quiet month.  Over on Finding A Neish I used Holmes and Rahe’s Social Readjustment Ratings Scale as a framework for my own list of daily hassles, spurred on by a burst tap and flooded bathroom.

Film of the month: Captain Phillips
